If you're on the ground, SkyDemon will give you information about where you are on the ground. I think you have to actually be flying in order to use waypoint tracking.

I am trying the "Track Waypoint" feature in flying mode but while I am on the ground. I tried tracking a nearby VOR but my position as displayed doesn't change from its default of "7 NM south of airfield x". Is this a bug or because I am not actually "flying"? SD 3.6.2 on Samsung S3 Galaxy Tony

+x- In the iPhone/iPad app, in "flight details", the total route distance is shown in "Statistics". This is practical for rough planning. It does not exist in the PC version, I have to click on every leg to get the leg length and add them, very impractical. Can it be added to the PC version? Basically make the "Timings" part (in "Flight details") of the PC app the same as the "Statistics" (also in "Flight details") of the iPad.
- Could we have a "padlock" icon or some option to lock the route definition (especially on the iPhone/iPad versions), so we do not accidently modify a leg when all we want is to zoom in or out or pan the map left or right? With a combination of small screens and big fingers I do this all the time.
- Would it be possible to define turning points in term of a radial + distance to a reference point or a VOR? When clicking/holding one's finger on a TP, add a sub-menu "reference VOR", or show the radials and distances to the closest VORs or something like that. This would be practical for ATS flight planning in regions with few IFR points to use (swedish CAA demands a point every half hour) or when planning on the PC where the measuring tape is absent (I find the measuring tape cumbersome to use in flight to be honest), but also during the flight, whether I want to practice VOR hopping on trips or just for situational awareness: N56085E142863 takes me a while to figure out on my print map, while SVD R160 D014 I know quite well where I am; If I want or have to divert to ESTA I'll stay on SVD, if I have to divert to ESMS I'll switch to the SUP VOR. Or I want to fly VFR through the Köln/Düsseldorf/Dortmund Bermuda triangle, it's not overly difficult with a couple of intercepts, and a good backup to have in case the GPS is out. This is basic instrument flying that we learn during our PPL in Sweden and have to be able to use.

When planning on the PC, the Ruler function would provide you with this information. In navigation mode, if you tap and hold on the referenced VOR and select Track Waypoint, the position report at the top of the screen will provide you with a continuously updated readout of bearing and distance to/from the VOR

+x...when planning on the PC where the measuring tape is absent... The measuring tape (ruler) is available in the PC version by using CTRL Click .. and it is in the manual too, my bad on this one. RTBM to myself.

+x1. Your route total distance and time is shown all the time, in the status bar at the bottom of the screen. 2. There is an Undo button to help mitigate accidental changes. In navigation mode you must unlock a leg before you can rubber-band it. We are happy with this combination of protection for the time being. 3. The User Waypoints screen allows you to create your own waypoints by reference to an existing waypoint. This can be a bearing and distance from a VOR if you like. 2. I like my solution better so I skip moving my pointer/mouse back and forth to the undo button, but I will try to use the undo function more. 3. The user points created with this method are static, I would still want to be able to move them with my finger.

+x- Distance: and Time: in PC Plan are always shown at the very bottom right of the main window, a place where I think it is alright. To have mobile and PC version similar may have advantages, but I think is it nice to have the data where it is now
- for zooming once a route is set, I use the + and - instead of zooming the two finger gesture, but you are right, a lock could be helpful, especially in bumpy conditions, maybe a little touch button between + and -?
- did you check the Navigation Options - Advanced Tools - Track Radial option? It should serve fine for what you describe.
Distance: I had not seen. I'll re-phrase my request as "for the sake of GUI consistency". Nav: I'd like to choose which VOR to minimize freq changes, and to take a useful one. In my area VEY works sometimes, LJU rarely, SVD all the time because it's an airway VOR. Also, you have to look up the correct TP in the pilot log. On a multi-leg trip in unknown territories, it can lead to mistakes. In a touch interface I'd find it more natural to just point at it.
